Blood Tests
Routine blood screening (haematology
and biochemistry give information of
general use in early diagnosis and provide
evaluation of known conditions.
Specialised heart related blood tests are done
to assess general risk but are of very limited
use in the reliable diagnosis of heart conditions
in individuals. Other tests such as artery
scanning and echocardiography are of much
greater use.
As part of a research project we have been
measuring blood levels of micronutrients
derived from foods - such as selenium,
magnesium etc. It could be that micronutrient
nutritional status is important in the
development and control of coronary
heart disease. Research is on-going to find out.
